Our Vision
About Us
Sister2Sister has provided years of breast health advocacy, education, and survivor support to the Central New Jersey Community. Sister2Sister is a 501©3 organization, a Breast Cancer Survivorship Organization. S2S was formed in January 2000 and serves as a critical resource for women battling the disease of breast cancer. Because under served women have the highest breast cancer mortality rate, the organization’s mission is to alert communities, families, and the media to the devastation breast cancer causes in the under served community. S2S has provided years of breast health advocacy, education, and survivor-support to the Central New Jersey Community.
The S2S founders, Dorothy J. Reed, Pearl Grace (deceased), Lareatha Payne, and Rosa Davis, with their collective experience with breast cancer surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy, provides a ground floor base of knowledge and adds a personalized perspective of the breast cancer experience to the organization. The S2S staff provides daily hands-on services for the newly diagnosed, callers, visitors, and breast cancer survivors who contact the office. Each inquiry, every caller and visitor, receives personal assistance and vital up-to-date educational information.
S2S is continuing to offer many needed services for all age groups, including Breast Health Education and Awareness, Referral and Resource Information. S2S’s Breast Cancer Assistance Program (BCAP), is a unique assistance program and is the primary focus of the organization. BCAP provides support services, referral service and financial assistance to women facing financial challenges during chemotherapy and radiation treatment. These services, for those who qualify, include but not limited to insurance supplement assistance, food cards, transportation, wig and prosthetic allowances. THE MAMMOGRAPHY PROJECT This signature program encourages ALL women to get annual mammograms; our slogan for this program is “Early Detection is Your Best Protection”, early detection has proven to be one of the best weapons in reducing the breast cancer mortality rate. The data captured by this program is used in our year over year follow-up statistics. Additionally, we offer targeted education programs such as “The Young But Not The Reckless,” a program for teens and college students; the “Silver Foxes” program, designed for Seniors 62 years and over. S2S also offers Survivorship Monthly Meetings held on the 2nd Monday of each month at the Sisters House located at 1201 Hamilton Street, Somerset, NJ 08873.
